Home Town Artist Feature~DeMuerte

Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a great weekend.
Baby came home yesterday evening so I am a happy mama again.

Today we have another hometown artist interview with the lovely Erin of DeMuerte!

Please tell us a little about yourself, your art and your etsy shop.
I've always had a background in acrylic paintings and polymer clay.
I've created numerous paintings but I always find it to hard to part with them. Looking for a way to be creative and share my work, while being able to part with my items and make a living, I fell into jewelry and I love it. I feel like each item is a small piece of artwork and I get excited for every purchase. There is nothing quite like walking down the street and seeing someone wearing one of your creations.

What and who inspires you?
Everyday objects inspire me, basically anything I find interesting I will try to build into a necklace. I like creating things in unconventional ways, like putting charms on cameo settings instead of just a necklace chain.

How did you decide to start an etsy shop and what have been your biggest challenges in doing so?
I was always big on ebay as a kid. I would search for bargains for hours and I would buy items at wholesale and re-sell them on ebay in order to make extra money. I loved etsy from the start because it had the a lot of the qualities I loved about ebay but without the waiting and without the people outbidding you last second. I finally started listing my items on etsy just to see how they do, and now I'm addicted. Although, I do not keep up with listing new items as often as I need too. Building a great etsy and having a strong following takes a lot more dedication than you initially think.

Do you sell locally in Atlanta and if so where?  Is there anywhere else we can see your work?
I haven't contacted any retail locations yet, although this is one of my goals for 2011. I usually do a lot of festivals from May-November, you will be able to find me at the Roller Derby Games, Artlantis, and, hopefully, East Atlanta Strut and Chomp and Stomp for sure. However, I always love when people just want to come by my house and shop, and that is always an option, even if I don't know you personally.

What are your future plans for DeMuerte?
This year I plan on contacting some stores and galleries and see if I can get my stuff in there. I also want to branch out in what I offer. I've been experimenting with different styles and materials for jewelry, but I've also started making coasters too.

What is your favorite band?
This is always a hard one, it has been Screeching Weasel ever since I was younger, but after the whole Screeching Weasel SXSW fiasco I really lost a lot of respect for Ben Weasel. Lately, I've been listing to a lot of Queens of The Stone Age or anything Josh Homme related.

And lastly...what is your favorite part about the Capital of the South AKA Atlanta?
My favorite thing about Atlanta is the variety. There is always a new music or craft festivals to check out, some new restaurant to go to, or some new attraction to spend the day at. I've lived in downtown Atlanta for 6 years and I still haven't run out of things to do.

Thank you Erin!
