I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
We celebrated Easter when Baby came home from his Daddy's for the weekend. We hunted eggs, ate dinner with Grammy and Grandpa and played with Easter baskets.
We were able to get a new item posted in the AND shop and Mister is working on some new patterns for both shops...more on that later...
This Week our etsy shop feature is on the lovely Rachel of Maybe Matilda. You can find her ad right over there...to the right!

Please tell me a little bit about your self, your shop and how you got started?
My name's Rachel--I'm a wife to a chiropractic student, mom to an 8-month old little boy, and obsessive crafter! I started selling my sewing and crochet on etsy when I realized I was running out of friends who hadn't already received something and shelf space in my house to keep everything I was making . . . I can't stop creating it, so I might as well share it with others!

What do you draw inspiration from?
When I first started sewing and crocheting, a lot of my inspiration was seeing beautiful products that I had to have but couldn't fit into our student budget . . . I realized I could recreate a lot of the gorgeous quilts and outfits and baby items that I wanted to have, plus add my own personal touches to really make them my own. Now that I've become more experienced and have branched out and developed my own style, I love to create unique designs that I wouldn't be able to find in stores even if I tried!
What have been your biggest challenges in becoming an etsy seller?
My single biggest challenge has been confidence in myself. It's scary to create something and stick a price tag on it--you're basically saying, "I made this, I think it's wonderful, and I think it and me are worth this dollar amount." Terrifying, right? I think so! I still kind of hesitate and panic every time I post something that I've made, but I've learned that for every person who isn't crazy about your work, there are ten more who think it's fantastic, so just make what you love, believe that it's great, and keep on creating!

What do you envision for your shop? Would you like to do it full-time?
I'm so happy that my shop has been as successful as it has been so far! I'm a stay-at-home mom to my little boy, and I feel like I'm living the dream--I spend my days playing with my baby, crocheting, and sewing . . . that's my ideal job!

Thanks so much for the feature! It's so exciting to see myself on someone else's site!
ReplyDeleteRachel @ Maybe Matilda
Very cool feature. It's fun for me to read what other sellers think about, what their challenges are, why they started their shops, etc. I am obsessed with scarves, but I'll probably never learn to make one.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! And that blanket is adorable. What a nice baby gift...I'm keeping an eye out on those for the next time I go to a baby shower. :)
ReplyDeleteRachel...You are SO welcome!
ReplyDeleteCourtney...Thank you! We should do a feature with you sometime...
Hannah...I agree! They are perfect!
I love reading Rachel's thoughts on the Maybe Matilda blog! Thanks for featuring her!
ReplyDelete@ HC, I know! She's one of several great people we have featured...wink, wink!
ReplyDeleteAwesome feature! I love the bit about confidence. That is often what stops me from getting my own crafty business up and going. Well that and my 4 month old twins :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, very well spoken. Plus, Rachel makes the best stuff! (Forrest included :))
